I joined the lighting team on Shrek as a Technical Director. Working inside DreamWorks Animation’s proprietary shading and lighting pipeline, I helped turn the film’s stylised look direction into final shots. It was an amazing production to learn from because the visual world was both technically ambitious and completely full of personality.
The film brought together expressive characters, richly varied environments, and a deliberately playful visual tone. I worked closely with lighting, surfacing, effects, and compositing so that the characters and environments felt like they belonged to the same wonderfully odd world.
We were working with early-generation render systems and limited computational resources, so every technical decision had to support both image quality and reliable delivery. That constraint was part of the craft: finding clever ways to make the image better without asking the pipeline to do the impossible.
