Supanova, Storytelling and the Joy of Fandom

On Saturday, I was at Supanova Comic Con & Gaming in Sydney, speaking on a panel about Stranger Things: Tales From ’85. I spent the day surrounded by people celebrating the stories they love.

What struck me wasn’t any particular franchise, but the simple joy people get from these worlds and the communities that form around them. It’s easy to get caught up in schedules, budgets, deadlines and technical challenges, but it’s all in service of telling stories that resonate with people.

I left feeling very grateful. Few people get to spend their careers helping create the worlds, characters and stories that mean something to others. I’ve been fortunate enough to do that for a long time, and seeing that passion firsthand was a good reminder not to take it for granted.
