The Best Creative Advice I’ve Ever Received

Last week, I had the chance to meet Steve McCurry—one of the most respected living photographers, best known for his iconic Afghan Girl portrait. He spoke about his extraordinary creative life, the places he’s been and the things he’s seen.

Afterwards, during the book signing, he asked who I wanted the dedication made out to. I know he doesn’t know me, so I said, “Don’t put my name. Just write a short message you think might be relevant.”

He wrote two words: Be curious.

It was so simple, but so powerful for anyone in a creative field. It doesn’t matter if your specific job is in IT, pipeline, production or an artistic role; curiosity is what we all have in common.

So here’s to curiosity, and to everyone applying it in ways we can all be inspired by.
