Apple’s New UI: A Preview of Smart Glasses?

I’ve been spending time with Apple’s new OS betas over the weekend, and something clicked. There’s been a lot of talk about the new “liquid glass” UI and how it looks, but I don’t think this is just about aesthetics.
Could this be Apple’s way of preparing us for smart glasses? The translucent layers, depth-aware widgets and floating glass panels aren’t just design flourishes; they’re training our minds to think spatially.
They’re helping users get comfortable with an interface paradigm where data isn’t locked to a screen but exists in space—a future where smart glasses are the primary way we experience digital content.
This isn’t new for Apple. The company often lays the foundations for big advancements years in advance. Auto Layout and adaptive-resolution frameworks arrived long before multiple screen sizes. ARKit launched six years before the Vision Pro. The Digital Crown on the Apple Watch helped normalise new input methods.
Now, with this new UI language, Apple could be nudging us again toward ambient, spatial, object-based computing.
